It is my pleasure to be here to address you this morning at the start of this important seminar on the “Key Elements Of an Effective Service Infrastructure for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises in Barbados”.
I also want to commend the organisers – the Barbados Employers Confederation, the Small Business Association of Barbados and the Caribbean Office of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), - for teaming up with a view to further educating and enlightening persons involved in the operation of Small and Medium Sized-enterprises on ways of better coping with the challenges of today’s world.

Mr. Chairman, Distinguished Guests, Facilitators, other Distinguished Members of the Head Table, Participants, Members of the Press, Ladies and Gentlemen:

I want to begin by saying how delighted and honoured I am to be able to address you this morning.

I also want to congratulate the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions and the World Council of Credit Unions for convening this regional workshop on Best Practices for Model Credit Unions. This training workshop comes at a time when the Caribbean is facing the prospect of difficult economic times as global stability seems threatened in the aftermath of the recent tragedies in New York and Washington.
