  Biographical Sketch

The Hon. George Hutson

Minister of Trade, Industry and Commerce

Edwin George Hutson comes from a family of business entrepreneurs who have lived in and around the Holetown area for decades.  In his lifetime he has seen the Parish of St. James grow into a major centre of tourism and a highly desirable residential area.  However, this form of development has exerted considerable pressure on the cost of living, the price of land and the natural environment.  He is particularly concerned about the escalating cost of land and the knock-on effect it is having on housing.  He fears that in another decade, if things are left to chance, Barbadians will not be able to afford the land on which to build a basic housing unit.

As a man of the people, he has for many years listened to the woes of the disadvantaged members of communities throughout St. James and now believes that it is time for something to be done about them.  It is for this reason that he is standing as the Parliamentary Representative for St. James Central.

George Hutson is a product of Good Shepherd Primary School, Combermere and the Barbados Community College.  He is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a practising Chartered Accountant.

George has always found time to get involved in community development projects.  He has served as a member and past President of the Rotary Club of Barbados West.  He is also a member of the West Side Toastmasters Club.  He is an active member of his church.

George Hutson shares a vision of Barbados in which citizens and residents are more enterprising and productive, where economic development is sustainable and where resources are more equitably distributed.  He believes that the revolution in education still needs to be completed and translated into the transformation of the social landscape of Barbados.

George and his wife Isabelle and their three sons live in St. James.
